The contours of Mt.Pangeon, the cool breezes from the Strymonic Gulf and the flinty soil of the region all provide ideal conditions for cultivation of the vine. The density of the planting is 4.000 plants/ha. All work (pruning, harvest) are handled by hand. Terraces cling to this rugged area in a multitude of directions as they follow the contours of the steep slopes. Cold winters, sharp temperature drops during the short summer nights and early morning summer mists, as well variations in soils from rocky limestone outcrops to ones rich in minerals, all contribute to the character, the balance and the great longevity of the wines.

Chateau Musar "2000, 2005, 2007" Though winemaking in the MIddle East goes back to pre-biblical times, Chateau Musar was founded in the 1930's by Gaston Hochar and taken over by his son, Serge in 1959. The winery is at Ghazir, 16 miles north of Beirut and its vineyards are situated 15 miles to the west in the mountain -ringed Bekka Valley at a remarkable elevation of over 3,000 feet. This cool and protected microclimate allows the grapes to ripen fully, but slowly, developing elegance along with their power. The red wines are made from a blend of different grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignane, Grenache and Mourvedre. The vines are grown on a gravely soil with a limestone base. The composition varies from one year to the next, giving Chateau Musar, each year, a different character and identity. The wines are aged 3 years in French oak and another 4 in bottle before release. Chateau Kefraya...2012 Chateau Kefraya is a 300 hectares estate located in the heart of Lebanon's Bekaa Valley at an altitude of 1000 meters. The hillside vineyards are situated in non-irragated graves, clay and limestone terraced soils. The grapes are handpicked at their peak of maturity and traditional vinification is looked after by a European oenologist. "Chateau Kefraya 2000"is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Mouvedre (16%), Carignan (13%) and Grenache (13%). |
